Magazine Front Covers

L/O: To identify the features on a magazine front cover; to explore genre codes and conventions
Masthead - at the top of a magazine, the title of the magazine
Dateline - issue number + date usually found under the masthead.
Main image - the central image of the magazine - usually a person
Cover lines - Text usually on the sides of the magazine saying what is inside the magazine
Main cover line - the main text on the magazine, links to the image, usually near the top or bottom
Bar code/ Price - usually found at the bottom, to tell people the price
Tagline/strapline - a slogan repeated in magazines at the top of the page, under the masthead
Pull quote - a short, attention catching quote usually found under the main cover line.

- The colour palette is usually bright and quite feminine as crochet is usually aimed at women.
- Their main images usually either show a woman wearing crochet or a crochet finished project included in the magazine.
- The typography used is serifs.
- The cover lines usually include/imply creativity and/or relate to the picture, tells us what sort of/ how many patterns are inside as well as tips.
- The target audience is women as all of the covers either have a woman on the front or include quite feminine designs/projects such as cute animals. Also, the colour palettes are very feminine as they include quite bright fresh colours.
